Since 1948, Southern Federal University has been training highly qualified national specialists for foreign countries. Over the years, thousands of international students have graduated with degrees in natural sciences, engineering, humanities, architecture, arts, and education.

Alumni Support Services

Diploma Legalization for Use Abroad

The legalization of Russian educational documents is required for their legitimate use in foreign countries. This process involves authentication of the university's signature and official seal, and is categorized into two types: “Consular Legalization” and “Apostille Certification”

Consular Legalization

This process is carried out in 2 stages:

Authentication of educational documents (original diploma with diploma supplement (grades)) through affixation of the seal by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). Since 2025, consular legalization is has been carried out by university staff at the regional Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (Rostov-on-Don).

The procedure for obtaining the service is carried out by contacting an employee of the SFedU Center of International Student Recruitment.

2. Certification by Consular Services of foreign embassies in the Russian Federation.

After affixing consular legalization on educational documents, each graduate will need to contact the Embassy of their country to affix an additional seal.

I came to Russia from Nigeria to pursue my higher education at Southern Federal University (SFedU), beginning my journey in 2017. As an undergraduate, I studied Mechatronics and Robotics, gaining extensive practical skills in engineering. Madaliev Islam (Uzbekistan)

I study at the Institute of Radioengineering Systems and Management of Southern Federal University in Taganrog. I was admitted directly to the first year in 2018 without needing to complete a preparatory course. The first semester was challenging, but many professors provide separate additional explanations for international students to help everyone better understand the material. The university offers great opportunities to practice and compete in various sports. Taganrog itself is a peaceful, quiet city where I've found the locals to be very friendly - being able to interact with them daily has significantly improved my Russian language skills. I'm glad I enrolled at SFedU – here I'm truly developing my skills and gaining knowledge.

I like that SFedU has a strong teaching staff in the humanities, especially in the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language. Our professors inspire us not only to immerse ourselves in Russian language and culture but also to participate in academic conferences and interdisciplinary research at various levels. The university actively encourages students to learn foreign languages, while international students enthusiastically attend cultural events and festivals celebrating Russia's diverse ethnic groups and global cultures. SFedU continuously strengthening its international partnerships, which creates a truly multicultural atmosphere.

Missak Kirilus (Egypt)

As a PhD candidate at SFedU’s Faculty of Physics specializing in Space Physics and Astronomy, I chose to study in Russia back in 2017 to pursue my dream of becoming a scientist researching quantum gravity. During my time here, I've grown not only as a physicist but also as a writer - composing stories and novels in Russian - while actively participating in economic forums, international conferences, and nationwide Russian language olympiads. All this became possible thanks to the constant support of professors and researchers who guide us in scientific work.

The Russian education system is very different from Colombia’s – here, the focus is on theoretical knowledge, which we then actively apply in practice. Of course, it’s challenging to study a specialized field, learn Russian, and adapt to Russian culture all at once. But what I love is the strong sense of teamwork here – if I struggle with something, my classmates are always ready to help. I’m truly happy that Rostov-on-Don has become my second home.
