Program Overview
During their studies, graduate students master the program, which includes a set of basic and specialized disciplines, and undergo pedagogical practice in the structural divisions of the Institute of Sociology and Regional Studies of the Southern Federal University. During the entire course of study, under the guidance of a supervisor, the graduate student carries out scientific activities aimed at collecting the necessary scientific information in order to prepare a dissertation. The scientific activity of graduate students contributes to the acquisition and realization of skills of independent research activities, collection, analysis and generalization of scientific material, contributes to the formation of the graduate student's ability to think independently, compare, analyze facts, summarize them, logically consistently present the studied material, and is also necessary for independent scientific research and preparation of a dissertation. During their studies, graduate students take part in scientific and practical events on the program's profile, master classes, methodological seminars, and scientific research conducted at the ISIR and with the participation of its partners. While working on their dissertation, graduate students conduct empirical research on the topic and publish the results in leading peer-reviewed journals.

We provide master classes, round tables; School of a young sociologist with the participation of leading Russian sociologists; participation in ISiR research projects; additional professional programs with the issuance of a certificate; ISiR has two journals of the Higher Attestation Commission (K2), which provide postgraduate students with free publications of scientific articles; Availability of the SFU Dissertation Council on sociology. The main educational program provides for conducting pedagogical practice, which helps to consolidate the knowledge and skills acquired by graduate students as a result of mastering basic and specialized disciplines, develop practical teaching skills and contribute to the integrated formation of students' competencies. Pedagogical practice is conducted permanently. The places of pedagogical practice are the scientific departments of the structural unit: - theoretical sociology and methodology of regional studies; - economic sociology and regional management; - regionalism and Eurasian studies; - sectoral and applied sociology; - conflictology and national security; - applied conflictology and mediation. Scientific departments have high personnel and scientific and technical potential, the teaching staff of the departments has many years of experience in scientific and pedagogical activities.

The purpose of the educational program is to train highly qualified personnel capable of innovative activities in the field of science, education, culture and management in the field of professional activities of graduates, including research activities in the field of management sociology. The result of the training is a prepared dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Sociological Sciences and its defense in the dissertation council.The defense of the dissertation will allow not only to conduct scientific and pedagogical activities in higher education, but also to carry out expert work in the field of sociology.
